This commercial came on while I was trying to watch muh show and I was absolutely stunned. The only politics we can agree on is this, so please watch it. You will be a better person for it.
Profiteering and Politics go together like bread and butter.

I like the implication that the field is level and everyone uses the same rules

oh boy! I am almost tempted to spend the stupid $99 (plus S&H) to get this just so I could take a selfie while playing it and caption it with your exact wording to win the internet!

Donkey v Elephant is never a fair fight, and their riders know that well.

I’m enjoying the irony that Mr. Pence is a Queen.
![]() 04/09/2020 at 14:21 |

So if Pence takes the fall for the coronavirus response and gets dumped from the ticket, will they send you a new VP piece?
![]() 04/09/2020 at 14:21 |

Especially when Ivanka Trump is the obvious choice for that piece

No doubt made in China of an alloy with high lead content.
That reminds me, I have a pair of Nixon-Agnew cufflinks, now only if I wore cuffs.

I would imagine so, though that might ruin their margins. At any rate you may soon receive your Democratic candidates in the mail, so you had better be nice to Aesthetics in Motion. You wouldn’t want the candidate to be knocked off his Donkey.
What happens if Biden is on the board twice?
![]() 04/09/2020 at 14:31 |

They both forget where they were and wander off the board

One of those would make a great substitute if Biden ends up on the board twice.

That’ll save casting labor, they can just use the same piece.
Nixon would be Lincoln compared to the current gang.
![]() 04/09/2020 at 14:44 |

Lincoln was an unprecedented radical who was just principled e nough to save the union. I'm not sure Nixon comes close but I know no one out there currently meets that description, though there are likely some talented advisors lurking in the shadows on both sides that do.
![]() 04/09/2020 at 14:46 |

It’s all relative. Compared to the current corrupt nepotistic gongshow, Nixon was like Lincoln. Nixon wasn’t good, but not as bad as what we have now.

That reminds me now that I’m old I need to see if you can still get the civil war chess set advertised in my youth.

Nixon of course got into office at a terrible time with stagflation and Vietnam, but I still don’t see much Lincoln in him. Maybe a little FDR but not Lincoln.
The only person in presidential politics right now who I think really believes in what he says was Sanders but electing him would have induced political gridlock and hang the moderates, to say nothing of my opinions on socialism.
It’s a crazy election for a first time voter like myself.

Maybe not the exact set but there plenty out there new, used, and antique.

I saw that last week and was going to post about it. If the election in November goes one way, can you order pieces to have your own alternativ e reality chess set?

Makes me wonder, is there a 2016 version? What about 2012? 2008? ’04?
And if so, what makes the 2020 set any more “ historic” than earlier versions?
![]() 04/09/2020 at 15:15 |

It’s relative. Just like relative to a Yugo, a Hyundai Accent is like a Bentley.
The moderates seem to mostly be establishment types who still bend over for corporatism and don’t aim for what might really be needed, like healthcare and tax reform. In my opinion, socialism is being used as a red herring in the US - nobody really supports it, and the average rightist who squawks it can’t even define it.
![]() 04/09/2020 at 15:17 |

Because this is one of the most divisive elections since 2016, but this time the Democratic party is divided.
![]() 04/09/2020 at 15:18 |

I think it is about the race to the general election, not the results of it.

The President piece comes after the election, I think.

![]() 04/09/2020 at 15:43 |

It isn’t fake if it is on TV, where I first saw it.
![]() 04/09/2020 at 15:48 |

Oh I’m not disputing that it’s real. For some reason the production and just the whole vibe makes it seem like one of those parody commercials to me
![]() 04/09/2020 at 15:51 |

It can be a bit of a red herring, and when no one bothers to know what it is it can be a powerful threat, but Sanders sure knows what it is and he got surprisingly far. It really depends on who is defining it but socialism in the US tends to be more of State Capitalism instead of Marx’s stepping stone to communism . This country desperately needs some bipartisan disambiguation on some words so people can hold a conversation that isn’t a shouting match.
![]() 04/09/2020 at 15:52 |

It’s supposed to, whic h is why it is so funny. The grandiose celebration of partisan politics as embodied in a cheap chess set is just too representative of the current political climate to miss its mark.

This is one of those products, along with the Titanic “Heart of the Ocean” replica necklaces, Dale Earnhardt collectors plates, colorized $1 bills with different designs printed on them, and those 9/11 “standing towers” commemorative coins that I look at and just can’t figure out at all who the hell the target market is supposed to be. Its a product that nobody should want, but exists, so clearly someone does.

There is a demographic for these, mostly comprised of people you choose not to know that we ll and/or retired people with money to burn and laurels to rest on. I almost want this because it is just too perfect an embodiment of a flawed idea.

Seeing as the apex of the working class in the US was around 50 years ago, and we’ve been coping with the impacts of trickle down lies for ~40 years, something is going to change sooner or later. Pure socialism/capitalism/etc doesn’t exist (Sanders isn’t as socialist as some like to imagine) , but we’re on the way to a corporatist oligocracy now, and I fear the future if it attains completion. If so, we’ll see even more corruption/nepotism/cronyi sm than the current regime has burdened us with.

On the left, the Democratic Party has been scrambling to throw up a defense against Trump by in-fighting to out-liberalize themselves, becoming so radically liberal as to alienate many centerist voters. On the right, Trump has e nough charisma and is just moderate enough to strike the right note for many swing voters. I don’t like the man himself but he may be less radical than you think and there is a reason he got such broad suppo rt. However, of course he does represent big business and will act in its interests , though the Democratic contenders who gave their last shout this cycle before aging out of the competition (another problem) are just as disconnected with the average American. It kind of comes down to whose administration you trust more and which you consider the lesser of two evils.
Probably the best case scenario would be for the Democratic party’s self re-evaluating to result in some younger new candidates less entrenched in the current establishment to challenge the Republican party into similar reforms.

What “ radically” liberal ideals have the Ds espoused? The Ds in terms of Biden and crew are the old guard, the boomers who preached progress and justice 50 years ago, but are now more than willing tow the corporatist line. No medical reform, no tax reform, what exactly is liberal? I am not seeing it. If anything, the Ds are in trouble (aside from constant in-fighting and lacking a compelling candidate to unite the base) not for being too liberal, but for being too moderate, too mediocre, unable to excite younger voters and new demographics. Ds need their own deplorables (without the racism, economic ignorance, TEM syndrome etc), they need somebody to stand behind. I believe they lack this right now. A lack of actual progress is what is hurting the Ds. Doing things the way they’ve been done won’t work for any kind of just future. Trickle down shit doesn’t work. Corporatized for-profit healthcare provides results inferior to other legit first world countries (of course, wide swaths of the US aren’t very first world either) . The Ds can capitalize on this, but they don’t.
Anyone who unites with people like Stephen Miller, who was in bed with Bannon, who tweets the shit he’s tweeted, who appoints Kushner to anything, who perpetually lies, is not moderate. People who aren’t on the parental or public sector dole see through it. Funniest thing, his base claims to hate “coastal elites”, yet they would give their lives for an inheritance elite real estate speculator and reality show host from Manhattan. It’s mind-boggling, the mental gymnastics and delusion. I question the motives behind anyone who votes for him.
